I sit and think that I must have my say about all these protests that have swept my homeland from end to end… and I ask myself: what about me, what am I doing and what have I done for that nation, state, homeland, or even for my native village?

For these 36 years I have not lived on those streets, in the city where I grew up, on the streets of my village where I first stood on my own two feet, watching the treetops swaying in the breeze and the eagles flying, as if pulling me to rise, to stretch out and, if possible, to fly… and, as bad luck would have it, I flew beyond my own lands. Why?

In this great big world I have felt like a child born out of wedlock… Mother Albania and my fatherland drove me away and never looked back…

Over 36 years in Europe, 10 to 12 presidents and prime ministers have come and gone. In my homeland, only two names have represented these 36 years. Was this the people’s choice, or, just as before, were they betrayed, violated, and treated like an illegitimate child?

Now, when my hair has turned white and I return as a pensioner, the younger generation, roused from a slumber this politics had put us in, has woken up and is demanding change.

Three days ago, the Minister of Defence in England resigned because the state did not increase military spending… A short while ago another minister did too, and over 15 years one party has changed 5 prime ministers… In my homeland, the ministers steal, the Mr. Prime Ministers steal, and they stay in power… where has this ever been seen, tell me one place in the world…

In my homeland, the state, the government, the authorities, and the violence have stripped the people of their right to property; they have taken away their property deeds, while taking for themselves a lifelong deed to power, to the land of my nation called Albania…

Pfft… a bad seed, my grandmother used to say…

I watch them when they speak and say that the people themselves elected them…

Yes, the people elected them, but when you do not serve the people, they also remove you. And is the river of the people not a hurricane showing you that you must leave? What are you waiting for, for this river to sweep you away and smash you against the great wall of hatred?

The people gave you their vote, what did you give them?

I know, you have given them many things, and the readers must forgive me if I forget anything…

First of all, you gave them your underpants and came out naked… and we took this for sincerity, thinking you had stripped yourself of all evils, but we were wrong…

You disarmed history in the schools, which hurts me the most… You even turned the great mosaic of Tirana into a laughingstock.

You built skyscrapers instead of increasing the number of hospitals, you built mosques instead of increasing the number of schools, you increased unemployment instead of employment…

You concreted everything, as if we were going to war. You took after Father Enver… he built bunkers, you turned Tirana, and all of Albania too, into a concrete bunker…

You built brothels for the LGBT, because in these transition years we needed those more than anything else…

You left Tirana with rationed water, despite having all these rivers. London has only one river that it filters and it never runs out of water. With a population four times that of Albania.

You want to make the children like yourself, baring their asses to the sun. You reimburse them for drugs to change their gender… while you leave the pensioners without medicine so they die as quickly as possible.

Now you want to sell off Albania to us in parcels, as if it were the baklava your mother made for you…

These and dozens of others are your achievements over these 13 years…

You found it crap and you turned it to shit…

Why do our prime ministers find it so hard to leave their seats?

Because this is becoming legitimized over the years…

For 15 years, Zogu took a parliamentary republic, turned it into a kingdom, and only left when he was ousted. Enver for 45 years, with a full deed until he closed his eyes, after first gouging out Albania’s eyes…. Sala only fell because he was overthrown, but he holds a lifelong deed to his chair. Eduard claims he should still stay on because of the work he has done…

Albania needs a constitution so that prime ministers hand over the position to one another after no more than 8 years… even if it means turning into a presidential republic like America…

It is a necessity of our time, not to mention that we are already very late!
